Keeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been handed a comeback to the Indian team for the 2026 T20 World Cup to be played in February-March. The southpaw replaces opener Shubman Gill, who was the vice-captain of the side during the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa. Gill has, however, been axed owing to his poor form with the bat.
Kishan has returned to the Indian team on the back of a stellar Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26. Captaining Jharkhand, he inspired the side to victory. The 27-year-old was also the leading run-getter in the T20 event. In 10 innings, he scored 517 runs at an average of 57.44 and a strike rate of 197.32. The batter slammed two hundreds and two fifties, including 101 off 49 balls in the final of the tournament against Haryana.
In this feature, we compare Kishan's stats with those of Ruturaj Gaikwad. Since Gaikwad has played 23 T20I so far, we compare his batting numbers with those of Kishan after the latter had also played the same number of matches.
