Is Shohei Ohtani fully fit? Inside the latest injury buzz surrounding Dodgers’ MVP

1 hour ago 3

It's early days, but Shohei Ohtani is struggling as far as hitting is concerned. In six games, the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar has only managed three hits in 18 plate appearances with a .423 OBP and .590 OPS. The reigning MVP has yet to hit the ball into the stands or bring a runner in, for that matter.

His struggles could be tied to his niggle in the right wrist, actually.

In Wednesday's 4-1 loss against the Cleveland Guardians, when Ohtani was departing after being struck out swinging in the eighth inning, he was shaking off his right wrist.

Later, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed Ohtani was waiting for the trainer, suggesting he might be playing through a twisted right wrist injury. However, it's not a major problem for the Japanese slugger since, in the past as well, he has gone through discomfort and still played.

Shohei Ohtani tosses six scoreless frames in season debut

Shohei Ohtani might be struggling at the plate, but from the mound, he is scorching hot. While he may not have yet reached triple-digit fastballs, his pitching debut on Tuesday was as good as it comes.

Ohtani tossed six scoreless frames for just one hit. His stellar pitching pushed the Dodgers to a 4-1 victory over the Guardians. Moreover, he extended his scoreless streak to 22.2 innings dating back to last season.

It's only a matter of time before Ohtani shows excellent on both sides of the plate.
