Is Henri Veesaar transferring? UNC new coach Michael Malone tries to avoid bad news

1 hour ago 3

North Carolina has had a handful of players already enter the transfer portal since Hubert Davis was replaced as head coach by long-time Denver Nuggets leader Michael Malone.

UNC's most important potential returning player, Henri Veesaar, is the name everyone is watching.

The portal opened on Tuesday, but there are still notable names making decisions as the week goes along.

Veesaar is coming off a season in which he averaged 17.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He shot 60.8% from the field and 42.6% from 3-point range.

If he enters the portal, he'd immediately become one of the best few players available.

Is Henri Veesaar transferring?

As of Wednesday afternoon, Veesaar's transfer status has not yet been determined.

There have been no reports or social media posts indicating that Veesaar is in the portal.

On the flip side, there have also been no posts saying that Veesaar is returning to UNC.

It seems that the situation is still being worked out.

There is one logical reason to think Veesaar could stay with Malone -- Malone's history with Nikola Jokic.

Malone and Jokic won an NBA title together.

Veesaar isn't Jokic, of course, but he's a highly skilled big man who can shoot it. The Estonian center has the potential to be an All-American if he sticks at UNC and clicks with Malone.

Will that happen? Tar Heels fans can only hope.
