Diablo 4 has had its ups and downs over the last couple of years, but what about 2026? Is it worth it for you to dive into the game, whether it’s the first time, or as a returning player? Ultimately, that’s up to you, but personally, I think the game has not been in such a positive spot since perhaps the Season of Loot Reborn. Not every bit of seasonal content has been great, but D4 is really coming into a bit of a resurgence of quality content.
Even with the most recent controversy with fans being upset about the Vessel of Hatred/Lord of Hatred sale/reveal, I think Diablo 4 is without a doubt worth getting into in 2026. The current content is good, Paladin is here (technically), and Lord of Hatred promises to be quite interesting as well.
Diablo 4 is definitely worth getting into in 2026
Diablo 4 hasn’t been in such a good position in quite a while, making it the perfect time to jump back in, in 2026. I think a large part of it is that the current season, Season of Divine Intervention’s content has been quite good. It’s short on story, but I’ve had a fantastic time playing the content and the overall gameplay changes.
Season 11 is fantastic, and I think that alone is worth logging back into D4 for (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)The Masterwork/Tempering updates are solid, and it’s easier, I think, to get better gear through these. Sanctification is a bit of a gamble, and I hope it sticks around after this season, but I’m not holding my breath. The shake-ups, adding the Mini Evils into locations in the game is such a nice touch.
Lord of Hatred is also going to add two new classes to Diablo 4 in 2026: The Paladin (which is already out if you pre-purchase), and a Mystery Class, that I’m convinced will be an Amazon, or perhaps a Warlock. The Paladin is my favorite class in the game right now, and I haven’t done anything on my usual Necromancer, thanks to it. It’s a real throwback to Diablo 2, but also takes some traits from the D3 Crusader to make something fresh and new.
The Paladin is my #1 reason to return to Diablo 4 in 2026. It's such incredible fun! (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)There are also going to be a suite of changes and improvements in Lord of Hatred, such as adding onto the Talent Trees, and hopefully making them more flexible and interesting. That’s one of the weaker parts of the game right now, so I’m genuinely excited to see some changes there.
While the microtransactions are still terrible, and Reliquaries aren’t great, that’s all very much optional stuff that you don’t have to spend money on (and I wouldn’t recommend it anyway, unless it’s something you really love the visual look of). We’ve got two back-to-back solid seasons, and I’m hoping the season that drops in a few months will also wow us.
There’s always a chance Lord of Hatred could be a major let-down, but judging by the last few updates, I don’t think that’s going to be the case. If you’re new to, or thinking of returning to Diablo 4 in 2026, I highly recommend taking the time to go and jump back into Sanctuary, and see for yourself.
