Iowa HC Kirk Ferentz reaches a legendary Big 10 milestone

It's not often you get to witness a legendary milestone in a head coach's career. Some of them may include their 100th head coaching win, winning 7 national championships, or, for Iowa Hawkeyes HC Kirk Ferentz, becoming the winningest coach in the conference.

The Hawkeyes secured a 47-7 victory over the Massachusetts Minutemen. Allowing HC Ferentz to secure the Big 10 throne, knocking off Ohio State HC legend, Woody Hayes, for the most wins in Big Ten coaching history.

Ferentz began coaching for the Hawkeyes in 1998, having to replace another celebrated coach in Hayden Fry. Since taking over, Ferentz has accumulated many accolades, including two Big 10 titles, four Big 10 Coach of the Year, and AP Coach of the Year in 2002.

He leads the pack with 206 wins, behind him is Hayes (205 wins), and third all-time is Michigan's Bo Schembechler with 199 wins.

After the win, Ferentz was asked how it felt to pass up these legendary coaches in wins. He responded, "That part is surreal." 

Ferentz could still extend the record as he has no signs of slowing down, trying to lead his team to their third Big 10 title in his tenure.

The Hawkeyes begin conference play next week as they take on the Rutgers Scarlett Knights on the road.
