The Seattle Mariners could be one of the best teams in baseball in 2025, with a few pickups this offseason.
Seattle already has the pitching needed to contend. The Mariners' rotation is phenomenal and young. Seattle is built to contend with its pitching for years to come but the Mariners desperately needs offense.
If the Mariners could add just a little bit more offense, they would be among the top teams in the American League. Seattle won 85 games in 2024 even with an anemic offense. Adding a star slugger to the lineup easily could bring the Mariners to 90-plus win territory.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand listed out the top options for Houston Astros star slugger Alex Bregman and had Seattle as one of the best options.
"Third base was a problem area for the Mariners in 2024," Feinsand said. "They ranked near the bottom of the AL at the position in OPS (.643, 11th), home runs (12, 12th), and RBIs (49, 13th). Given their stellar starting rotation, the Mariners will look to upgrade the lineup this offseason, with third base being an obvious area of need."
Seattle needs some offense and will have to pay heavily if it wants Bregman. He had a five-year, $100 million deal with the Astros but is available now and likely will get more. Seattle could afford a deal in that ballpark and should be all over it.
The Mariners are right on the doorstep of contention and landing Bregman would also hurt the rival Astros. This is a perfect move.
