After moving on from Jaylen Brown, reports indicated that the Boston Celtics actually believe they made the right move because of what youngster Payton Pritchard could become.
Pritchard, a smaller guard who is a decent player in his own right, is probably more of a fifth or sixth man on a team.
However, reports indicated that the Celtics actually believe that he could become the next Jalen Brunson, an absolutely outrageous comment to make after what we've seen Brunson do over the past few years.
The whole compare every small guard to Brunson talk is flat-out ridiculous, as we haven't seen many players do what Brunson has done at his size. At some point, it's time to start being like Brunson instead of talking about being like him.
That's why I'm very happy to see one reporter who went as far as to say that Boston is being absolutely ridiculous if it thinks it actually has anything like Brunson in New York.
“Please miss me with the Boston thinks Payton Pritchard is going to be Jalen Brunson talk. Did you just see Jalen Brunson? Just see what that dude did in the Finals? I love Payton Pritchard. He’s not going to be Jalen Brunson,” Zach Lowe wrote, H/T Sportsnaut.
To make matters worse in a comparison like this, Pritchard and Brunson aren't exactly comparable players in terms of what they do.
Brunson can break down a defense, while Pritchard is more of a three-point shooter. Not to say Pritchard isn't decent, but the comparison is flat-out ridiculous.
