Chris Pratt Shares Why His, Katherine Schwarzenegger's Kids Have Never Watched Any Movies

When Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger's children do start watching movies, their dad's body of work should at least keep them busy for a while.

"There's gonna be a season, they're gonna realize their dad is really cool," Chris quipped on TODAY. "They haven't realized it yet, but one day."

And once Lyla, 5, Eloise, 3, and Ford, 16 months, have exhausted the kid-friendly shelf of their father's filmography—getting even more stacked with the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie—then they've got their grandfather's movies to discover…eventually.

"Katherine is very old-school when it comes to screens and technology and all of that stuff," Chris explained. "So, we're waiting."

But the actor's 13-year-old son Jack, with ex-wife Anna Faris, went with him to Tokyo while he was promoting his Super Mario Bros. sequel and finds his dad's PG offerings "pretty cool."

Which, in turn, has inspired Chris to make more quality family fare, because "at the same time as wanting to make movies that would entertain my kids," he told Men's Journal, "I’m also thinking about creating movies that are merciful on the parents."

In the meantime, he and Katherine are keeping their little ones busy with lots of parks and rec.

Chris told E! News in August that he was teaching his daughters "how to dive down to the bottom of the pool and pick things up,” and Katherine has been sharing springtime photos of the kids in the snow, at the beach, tromping around their garden and feeding carrots to her horse.

"Growing up in Los Angeles, I think it's important for people, especially kids, to have a place to get dirty, be free and be around animals in open spaces," the 36-year-old, who used to ride competitively, told People in 2021. "It was a huge help for me growing up."

Her 2025 children's book, Kat and Brandy, about the emotional bond that can form between kids and animals, was "based off my own experience just working through fears as a child,” she explained to Extra in November. "And it was important to me now, having three of my own little kids, that I write a book that talked about overcoming your fears, talked about bravery and courage and doing that all alongside the healing power of animals.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger would agree, as the 78-year-old Terminator star shares his home with a whole menagerie, including a miniature horse.

"I feel like we get our fix of the chaos of animals by going to my dad’s house because he literally has a million animals inside the house," added Katherine, the eldest of Arnold's four children with ex-wife Maria Shriver. "Our house is a little bit more tame right now with just four chickens.”

But while her spread doesn't resemble a petting zoo, the 36-year-old has adopted some of her dad's ways when it comes to child-rearing.

Calling herself "traditional" with the "implementation of the chores and the strictness of the chores," she attributed that to "probably a little bit of my father coming out," explaining on the Cat and Nat Unfiltered podcast in November that her dad "had no patience or excuses for not doing your chores."

Chris, a self-described "sensitive kid," said on Today last August that his parenting style is also "heavily influenced" by how he was raised. But in his case, his late father Dan Pratt, a contractor, was "very tough and very strict. So, I tend to be a little more mindful of the sensitivity in kids…I’m not as tough and I’m not as strict.”

Katherine "is more of the rule enforcer," he added.

But, as Katherine told People in November, "We do a really good job communicating," something that was really important to both of us from the beginning and continues to be really important to us as life gets busier and crazier, especially as you add more children into the mix."

And, ultimately, she said, they "balance each other out," Katherine noting that Chris "has a lot of strengths that I don't have, and I have certain strengths that maybe he doesn't have. We are a great team."

Having children is "incredible," Chris, 46, told Men's Journal in 2023, because "the things you normally take for granted in life are new. As they grow up, it becomes more about connecting with them as individuals and what makes them unique."

As for fostering their own bond, Katherine told People that she and her husband of six years find time for "micro moments" to enjoy each other amid the chaos.

"We put so much pressure on doing date nights or couples trips," she said, "but I think just having these moments throughout the day that allow you to connect really takes the pressure off of having to plan something that's over the top. It's honestly more realistic for this phase of life."

It's a phase they were excited to reach, welcoming Lyla 14 months after they tied the knot in June 2019.

"God has a fast-forward button," Chris said on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2023, recalling that he'd been "struggling and felt really broken" in the wake of his divorce when he met Katherine in 2018. "When it's right, boom. You fall in love, you get married. Now we have two beautiful daughters to add to my family."

Though, after he spotted her at a Hollywood church where he was picking up Jack from a program—"I know you’re not supposed to be, like, checking out girls at church," Chris quipped on Fox & Friends in December, "but I’m only human"—they didn't start dating right away.

But when they did, Katherine was the one who took Chris someplace special.

“We didn’t even know each other," she told Extra, "and he was trying to figure out where we should go on our first date.”

She figured a long car ride to Carpinteria, Calif., to visit her childhood horse would give her a good read on Chris' character.

"It was definitely a risk to take like a five-hour drive with someone that you don't know," she reflected, "but it lended itself to a lot of talking and conversation."

When they got engaged in January 2019, Katherine hired a step-parenting coach to help her with understanding her role in Jack's life because, as she said on a July 2025 episode of the Parenting & You With Dr. Shefali podcast, "step-parenting, like parenting, has no handbook."

Happily, co-parenting with Anna has gone "very well," she noted. "It takes a lot of work, but it works when everybody is willing to put in the work. And when it comes to ego, that definitely pops up for me, for sure, and I always go back to understanding that this isn’t about me, it’s about the child.”

And, as for being a mom and stepmom, she told People in October, "I feel really grateful to be able to experience both and continue to learn a lot and grow in both of those spaces."

Of course, it's been a crash course for everyone involved.

“It’s beautiful chaos, man,” Chris told E! News in August of raising four kids. “Absolutely hectic, and wonderful and I’m drinking up every moment I can when I'm able to be home. It’s been glorious, we feel very blessed."
