The illegal migrant accused of executing a Chicago college student in cold blood last week failed to show up for a Monday hearing because he is being hospitalized for a rare contagious disease.

Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old Venezuelan national, was not at the hearing because he requires treatment for tuberculosis, the Chicago Tribune reported.

TB, a bacterial infection that can be spread by coughing, is rare in the US, but is much more common on Venezuela and other parts of South and Central America.

Medina-Medina is charged with murdering 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman, a Loyola University student from New York who was killed by a gunshot to the head early Thursday morning.

She and friends were near their campus around 1:30 a.m. while taking a walk to try to see the norther lights, when Medina-Medina allegedly jumped out at the and brandished a gun.

When they fled, he allegedly fired a single shot that struck Gorman in the head and killed her.

He was apprehended entering the country illegally in 2023, but was released and ended up in Chicago.

Medina-Median was then arrested for shoplifting, but the city’s sanctuary policies saw him turned back out on the street again.

This is a breaking story. Please check back for updates.
