If you’re going to buy one pair of pants this spring, make it these

I have to admit, A-listers are onto something.

Like many folks, I’ve squeezed into Spanx’s shapewear countless times, with fantastically smooth results. But while stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon and Oprah all wear the brand’s bestselling AirEssentials casual clothing on repeat, I hadn’t ever tried it — until recently.

And now, it’s the only thing I want to wear.

Spanx recently dropped a new French Rib version of the line, which caught my eye thanks to the stylish fabric upgrade. One to go all-in, I tried a few pieces at once. Between the comfort, the fit and the cut, I finally see what the buzz is all about.

I plan on wearing the Sleeveless Jumpsuit all spring (it’s giving French Riviera). But there’s one piece I’ve been wearing so often that it might be a little weird: the French Rib Wide Leg Pant.

Like the rest of the collection, it comes in petite, tall and regular lengths in sizes XS-3X. The signature UPF 50+ spacer fabric stretches in every direction while remaining light and flowy. While I tried it in black, it’s also available in navy, cream, sage and more colors.

I’ve haven’t always felt spendy when it comes to casual wear, but now that I’ve tried AirEssentials, there’s no turning back.

I’m even considering pairing the pants with a blazer or button-down and sneaking them into the office; I can’t imagine traveling in anything else. (And of course, all weekend, we’re inseparable.)

The French rib somehow elevates the look out of sweatpant territory into a hybrid — potentially dressier — style. And yes, it has pockets!

I feel like I can finally look chic off-duty without giving up comfort, which is a major win.

The new collection also includes an on-trend barrel leg pant, the iconic half-zip top, a cardigan and other lovely, easy-to-wear styles. (Though if you’re looking for more office-ready options, the brand’s WellSuited line offers a gorgeous Tailored Blazer, Pencil Skirt and more — all next on my wish list.)

When shopping Spanx’s compressing shapewear, I size up; however, my regular size fits best in the casual clothing. The waist was a little snug at first (I’ve been snacky lately), but it actually stretched a bit since I’ve been wearing them, and the fit is perfect now.

The only con I found is that sometimes the pretty ribbon waist tie flips, exposing the white elastic underneath the drawstring hole. But now that I’ve noticed it, I simply adjust it to make sure it’s flat — though perhaps I’m being picky.

The pants are so versatile, pairing perfectly with everything from cute everyday styles to sweatshirts. I highly recommend treating yourself to a pair (or two). You won’t be disappointed!
