If Victor Wembanyama becomes the greatest basketball player of all time, this will be the scene they show first in his narrative.

Wemby and the San Antonio Spurs held a 29-point lead over the New York Knicks (27 at the half), and they lost Game 4 of the NBA Finals anyway.

The Knicks staged the greatest comeback in Finals history.

The Spurs had no answer.

On one of the game's pivotal possessions, Wembanyama ran away from a pass, unknowingly allowing the ball to be easily stolen to set up a transition chance.

And on the game's final possession, the Spurs used Wemby as a decoy and a screener, not the solution.

This can be how the great ones are born.

They don't all take the league by storm immediately. Wemby has done it quicker than most, in the Finals in just his third season.

But most of the all-time greats had an obvious hurdle to clear, an obvious adversity to overcome.

He surely recognizes that something like this, if harnessed correctly, could make him even stronger.

In many ways, Wembanyama doesn't need extra powers. He's already 7-foot-4 (at least) with every skill in the book.

But yeah, after a loss like this? Motivation isn't going to be hard to find.

Especially if the Spurs lose the series, this Game 4 loss will be crushing. Wemby will replay it in his head every day before he works out. He'll want to avoid having this feeling ever again.

And whether you like it or not, an even-more-motivated Wembanyama is massive news for the league.

He could become an all-timer. After this, his odds may have actually increased of reaching his full potential.
