Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland passed away early Thursday morning, he was just 24-years-old. The Cowboys released a statement announcing the tragic loss of their defensive end.

Tributes in Kneeland's honor were shared on social media and his former teammate, Micah Parsons, shared his on Instagram. The Green Bay Packers edge rusher reshared a post on his Instgaram Story and expressed his sorrow for Kneeland's passing.

"I'm sorry lil brother I hope you find peace (heart emoji) Broken heart emojis)," Parsons wrote.

Kneeland was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2024 and was teammates with Micah Parsons until the latter was traded to Green Bay in late August.

Cowboys former DC Mike Zimmer shared his final conversation with Marshawn Kneeland

Former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer coached Marshawn Kneeland during his rookie season in 2024. Zimmer was replaced by Matt Eberflus as defensive coordinator this season under new coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Early Thursday morning, Mike Zimmer spoke to the NFL Network's Jane Slater about Kneeland's passing. He also gave a bit of insight into his last conversation with the defensive end.

“He was a great person, eager to learn .. wanted to be great. He didn’t take any crap from anyone on the field. He studied hard-loved playing the game . Tough. Zimmer added “My last conversation with him was keep being you you’re going to have a great career," Mike Zimmer told Jane Slater.

When the news of the Dallas Cowboys' defensive end was announced, a cause of death was released. Later in the day, the Frisco Police Department released a statement stating the events that transpired leading up to Kneeland's passing.

The police reportedly responded to Kneeland's home for a welfare check after he sent concerning text messages to family and friends. Frisco Police noted that he evaded a Texas State Trooper and they soon found his vehicle crashed into a tree. Kneeland had fled from the scene and was found hours later, he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
