Tanner Scott can not seem to catch a break in 2025.
After blowing yet another save on Friday afternoon against the San Francisco Giants, in which he gave up a walk-off grand slam to Giants catcher Patrick Bailey, Scott went full frontal on his season struggles after yesterday's loss.
"I'm having the worst year of my life," Scott boldly told the media in his post-game presser. "I got to do better."
This has been a recurring theme for the 31-year-old southpaw, as all across the stat sheet, he indeed is having the worst year in terms of his MLB career. This season's struggles are coming in an unprecedented way, as Scott was coming into free agency last year as the most sought-after reliever, posting a 1.75 ERA and notching 22 saves for both the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers won the bidding war and signed Scott on a four-year, $72 million contract, with an AAV of $18 million.
Since he arrived in Los Angeles, the runway for Scott has been bumpy, and blown saves have been a stat most familiar with Scott in 2025. In 2025, Scott has committed nine blown saves, with his most notable occurring within the past couple of days when he allowed back-to-back walk-offs against the Baltimore Orioles on September 5th and 6th.
“Certainly, it doesn’t feel good giving up runs in any capacity. He’s one of our highest-leverage guys, so a lot of times when it doesn’t go well, the game is in the balance," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated about Scott's season struggles. "There’s obviously outside noise, but inside the clubhouse, guys believe in him. I believe in him."
Scott believes that he is tipping his pitches somehow, but regardless of the situation, every hitter seems to have Scott figured out.
“I don’t know if I’m tipping or what, but they’re on everything. It sucks,” Scott said.
