Yoshinobu Yamamoto finishes third in NL Cy Young voting

Yoshinobu Yamamoto had a year to remember on all fronts. In the regular season, he started 30 games, posting a 2.49 ERA while striking out 201 batters. However, he fell short of winning his first Cy Young.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ Paul Skenes was the unanimous winner, collecting all 30 first-place votes. Philadelphia Phillies’ Cristopher Sánchez took second place, receiving all 30 second-place votes. Yamamoto finished third with 72 total points, having received 16 third-place votes, 11 fourth-place votes, and 2 fifth-place votes.

However, Yamamoto would still take this year, any season. In the World Series, where he was crowned the MVP, he went 3-0, posting a 1.02 ERA, struck out 15 batters, and allowed just two earned runs over 17.2 innings.
