Details around a popular AEW star's immediate future in the Jacksonville-based promotion have surfaced following a major incident at Dynamite: New Year's Smash.
That star is Jack Perry. Last night on Dynamite, the former TNT champion and AEW Tag Team Champion faced off against Ricochet for his National Championship. The match was a stellar contest as expected, with both wrestlers enthalling fans with their aerial arsenal. That said, a major chunk of the focus was taken away by Perry's Jurrassic Express teammate Luchasaurus at ringside, who had his shoulder wrapped, indicating a fresh injury. After the finish, which saw Ricochet retain his ally, Toa Liona took out Luchasaurus. That action was later revealed to be AEW's way of writing Luchasaurus off TV, as there were legitimate concerns regarding his injury. Now, new reports have emerged regarding Perry's immediate future, with his tag team partner out of commission.
According to Fightful, Perry is set to continue in the Jacksonville-based promotion as a singles star.
Luchasurus could have died from major ailment, says AEW star Jack Perry
For those who need a refresher, Luchasaurus suffered from double pneumonia in 2024, which caused severe lung damage and required hospitalization. In a recent sit-down with Renee Paquette on the latter's Close Up with Renee show, the Scapegoat disclosed the severity of Luchasaurus' condition, stating that he could have died from it.
"At some point, I think he wants to tell everyone all about it. But it's like I think I don't know, I didn't know pneumonia was like a current thing... And they took him to the hospital, and I don't remember the percentages, but they said like 'You're within like 10% of like if you get below this, you probably would've died'. And I was just like holy s**t like, you could've been dead," he said.It will be interesting to see how Perry will fare as a singles star in All Elite Wrestling now that Luchasaurus is out of action indefinitely.
