Veteran Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers announced his NFL retirement for a second time this week. The veteran quarterback, who came out of retirement in a shocking move to help out the Colts in the second half of the season, confirmed his retirement on the Up & Adams show on Thursday.
During his appearance, NFL insider Kay Adams asked about Rivers' plans after his retirement, inquiring about a potential media role in the future. While Rivers didn't "rule out" the possibility, the 44-year-old said he wants to be involved in a capacity to impact the game.
"What's with you in media? What's it gonna take? ... What's your relationship with that?" Adams asked Rivers.

"I've not ruled it out, but I've just had every opportunity that's been close to have coming or had come up. It just hadn't felt right. So, I haven't completely ruled it out. That is the one thing that I do think I would enjoy. "I just don't know. The one thing that I just loved, however old, playing this game and being now as a coach, is that I've been able to have some impact on the score. For me, it's like, yeah, all right. You might be good at talking about it, but I have nothing to do with the outcome of this game."Rivers, who retired for the first time in 2020, has been coaching the St. Michael Catholic High School football team in Fairhope, Alabama and could turn to the NFL someday.
Philip Rivers revealed he wouldn't have returned for any other team than Colts
Philip Rivers started the Colts' last three games, but with Indianapolis out of postseason contention, they are turning to rookie Riley Leonard for their season finale against the Houston Texans on Sunday.
After announcing his retirement for the second time, Rivers shared that he wouldn't have come out of retirement for any other team than the Colts, the team he represented in his 17th and final (at the time) season in 2020.
“I knew I was done in 2020,” Rivers said. “Everything lined up just right. Had someone, there’s no chance. It was because it’s a place I’ve been, a team I was familiar with, offense was exactly the same, same coach. I knew our football season was over. It was all those things that made it the perfect storm.”Rivers finishes his second NFL stint with 544 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions in three games.
