A major change at the 2026 World Cup has already caught the eyes of fans.

With the introduction of "hydration breaks," which split up each half of a match, it's now possible for commercials to be shown in the middle of the World Cup action. Broadcasters aren't obligated to cut to advertisements during those breaks — but Fox showed early in the tournament that it will use those opportunities to show commercials.

Finding ad-free World Cup coverage may be more difficult in 2026 than it has in the past, but there are options out there for soccer fans.

Here's a guide to watching World Cup 2026 games without commercials.

Why Fox has World Cup commercial breaks

At the 2026 World Cup, FIFA previously announced that all 104 matches would feature "hydration breaks" midway through each half. Each hydration break lasts for three minutes, with the intention of giving players a chance to drink water and catch their breath in the heat.

However, the introduction of hydration breaks also altered the fan experience watching from home. FIFA has been criticized for making the change while valuing the potential financial incentives of more commercials, which can now be aired during the three-minute breaks. On top of coaches being able to provide more tactical instruction during the breaks, it's up to the broadcasters whether they want to cut to commercials, use the time for analysis, etc.

Fox, the main U.S. broadcaster for the entire 2026 World Cup, showed on Day 1 how it would utilize those breaks to some fans' dismay: commercials. And a mistake from the network resulted in those advertisements running long, missing a few seconds of the action by the time South Africa vs. Mexico was back on the air.

While Fox is set to continue showing commercials during the three-minute hydration breaks, there are alternative ways to catch World Cup games without any cuts to full-screen advertisements.

How to watch World Cup games without commercials

There are two broadcasts soccer fans can turn to to avoid any commercials during hydration breaks.

Telemundo

Telemundo is World Cup 2026's Spanish-language broadcast rights holder in the United States. It did not cut away to hydration-break commercials during the first two games of the tournament, per The Athletic, and instead, the broadcast "kept players on camera as commentators offered analysis."

“We’re going to be staying on the match feed,” Telemundo Enterprises’ senior vice president of sports content, Miguel Lorenzo, previously told Sports Business Journal. “Fans are going to be able to watch the players and the coach interactions. We’ll be having important match replays. Our commentators will be analyzing the moments. None of that will be interrupted in any way. Our goal is to create an authentic World Cup viewing experience. We think we can do that in a lot of ways, and one of the most impactful ways is by never leaving the pitch once the clock starts running.”

According to NBC, Telemundo will have coverage of 92 live World Cup matches. In order to watch commercial-free analysis during the hydration breaks, the Spanish-language broadcast will be the leading option.

Peacock

As for streaming, to watch commercial-free World Cup analysis during the hydration breaks, Peacock is also an available option.

All 104 matches can be streamed through Peacock, which carries Telemundo's coverage live through streaming.

Peacock's 2026 World Cup coverage is in Spanish because NBC is the tournament's Spanish-language broadcast rights holder in the United States. Because of that, Peacock only streams games in Spanish.

The main U.S. broadcaster for the entire 2026 World Cup, with English-language broadcasts, is Fox.
