For the first time in a long time, St. John Bosco (9-0) is the overwhelming favorite entering its regular season matchup with Mater Dei in a battle of the incumbent top two programs in all of high school football.
With losses to Corona Centennial and Santa Margarita, Mater Dei (6-2) is already out of the national title race before the end of the regular season.
But the highly-talented Monarchs are still one upset win away from grabbing a share of the Trinity League title and entering the CIF-SS D1 playoffs as an arguable favorite to three-peat atop the section and state. And it's hard to imagine anyone would put it past them to do it.
