How to watch Round Rock at Lake Travis in Texas high school softball playoffs

Unlike several of the Texas UIL 6A Division I bi-district softball playoffs, Round Rock and Lake Travis instead will take a winner-take-all format.

Only one game will be played between the Dragons and Cavaliers to determine which team will advance to next week’s area round. The one-game bi-district playoff takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Lake Travis’ field.

Round Rock comes into the postseason with a 13-10 overall record, finishing 11-6 in its district for a fourth-place finish. The Dragons have won three of their last five games coming into Thursday night.

That included a 13-0 win on April 11 against crosstown foe Westwood, in which pitcher Jillian Bensman threw a one-hit shutout and struck out eight. Aliya Cote was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs at the plate.

Four days later, Round Rock downed Manor, 18-0, as Jalyn Templeton threw a two-hit shutout, striking out three. She also had two hits, while Allison Stiffler went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Gabby Gretch homered and drove in two runs.

Lake Travis enters Thursday’s bi-district playoff at 19-9-1 overall, as the Lady Cavs finished second in district play with a 10-2 record. They also come into the postseason with four straight wins, starting with a 3-2 win on April 11 against rival Austin Westlake.

Senior Madison Pinzon is the team’s top hitter at .378 and also leads Lake Travis in home runs (4), RBIs (29), doubles (13) and slugging percentage (.743). Another senior, Regan Moore, leads in on-base percentage (.442).

Sophomore pitcher Juliana Rodriguez is 13-4 with a 1.82 ERA. She has struck out 186 batters in 119 innings.

The Round Rock-Lake Travis winner advances to next week’s area round, taking on the winner of the bi-district playoff between San Antonio Brennan and Austin Reagan.
