Even as title favourites like Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev have fallen by the wayside, Daniil Medvedev continued his surprising run at the Madrid Masters.
The Russian, seeded No 9, defeated Brandon Nakashima 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 on Tuesday to progress to the quarterfinal of the ATP 1000 event. He will next take on former French Open finalist Casper Ruud.
Novak Djokovic, chasing his 100th tour title, once again fell short as he was knocked out in the second round by Italy's Matteo Arnaldi. Top seed Alexander Zverev, meanwhile, went down 5-7, 3-6 to Francisco Cerundolo in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
