American stars Madison Keys and Coco Gauff scored straight-set wins to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Madrid Open, but the road will only get tougher from here.
While Australian Open champion Keys is set for a showdown against defending champion Iga Swiatek, Gauff will take on teen sensation Mirra Andreeva, who has already won a WTA 1000 title, in Indians Wells, this season.
In the top half of the draw, World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominant run in Madrid by making it to her fourth quarterfinal in five years. She defeated Peyton Stearns 6-2, 6-4 in the Round of 16 to set up a clash against Marta Kostyuk.
Japanese star Moyuka Uchijima, meanwhile, is enjoying a breakthrough tournament in Madrid. Ranked 56 in the world, the 23-year-old defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Tuesday to reach the quarterfinal of WTA 1000 for the first time.
