One of the hottest high school softball teams in the state of Arizona is back in action on Monday afternoon.

Flagstaff Coconino brings a current 19-game winning streak with it as the Panthers play at home on Monday against Glendale Independence.

Coconino comes into Monday’s game at 24-4 overall and are also 12-0 and leading the 4A Grand Canyon conference in addition to its 19-game win streak.

The Panthers are led by players like senior Danica Kern, who leads the team in hitting at .533, on-base percentage at .537 and runs scored (44); senior Aryanna Dominguez, the home-run leader (5); and senior Destiny Villas, who leads in RBIs (37) and slugging (.871). Another senior, pitcher Kaitlyn Tso, is 23-1 and has a 0.65 earned run average while striking out 245 batters in 130 innings.

Independence also brings a solid record into Monday’s matchup. The Patriots are 13-3 and are also undefeated in their conference, 8-0 in the 5A Central Valley. They have won five of their last six games.

Senior Genevieve De La Cruz tops the Pats in batting (.619), on-base average (.733), homers (3), runs scored (32) and slugging (1.119). Carmen Hernandez, another senior, leads the team in RBIs (21) and is third in batting (.417). In the circle, senior Mariana Perez Vargas has 96 strikeouts in more than 62 innings.
