How to watch Forney vs. Houston Langham Creek in Texas high school softball playoffs

Two of the hottest teams in Texas high school softball seeks to advance to the next round of postseason play.

Forney, which has won 14 consecutive ballgames, puts that long streak on the line Thursday night as the Jackrabbits take on Houston Langham Creek - which has won 18 of its last 19 ballgames - in the opening game of the Texas UIL 6A Division II regional semifinal series in Quadrant 2. All three games in the series, including the potential “if necessary” Game 3, will take place at West High School, located between Dallas and Waco.

The Jackrabbits (29-1-1) opened postseason play with a two-game sweep against Garland in the bi-district round. Then in the area round, a one-game playoff, Forney rolled past Copperas Cove, 16-3, with Eva Daniels setting the tone with a leadoff home run. Domiana English added a homer later in the game.

Forney’s lone loss came in early March, a 1-0 defeat to Royse City.

Langham Creek (27-5) had won 17 straight games before a 2-0 loss to New Caney in the second game of its area playoff series. But the Lobos bounced back in the decisive third game with a 5-3 win.

Senior Karli Challburg leads the team in batting (.495), hits (48) and runs scored (44), while sophomore Mia Martinez tops the Lobos in on-base average (.607), home runs (8), stolen bases (16) and slugging (.877).

Challburg is also 26-4 in the circle this season with a 1.05 earned run average. She has struck out 232 batters in 159 1/3 innings.

The Forney-Langham Creek winner advances to next week’s regional finals, taking on the winner of the regional semifinal between Royse City and Tomball.
