How to get Rolycoly in Pokemon GO, and can it be shiny?

Rolycoly in Pokemon GO arrived as part of the Winter Holiday Part 2 event. It is a Rock-type from Generation VIII. It evolves into Carkol when fed 25 Candy, which further evolves into Coalossal when given 100 Candy. Both of these evolved forms gain the secondary Fire-typing.

Wild encounters

You can find Rolycoly as a rare wild encounter during the Winter Holiday Part 2 event in 2025, from December 24 to 29. As a mono-Rock-type the creature's availability will be boosted by Partly Cloudy weather. You can also employ Lure Modules and Incenses to increase your odds of finding the critter.

Raids

Rolycoly will also be appearing as a one-star raid boss during the event. It will be a low-powered creature, and can be challenged both in person and remotely. Use Water-, Fighting-, Ground-, Steel-, or Grass-type Pocket Monsters in your team for the best results.

After you defeat Rolycoly, you can catch it at the following CP ranges:

• No weather boost: 315 CP - 349 CP at level 20 (10/10/10- 15/15/15 IVs)
• Weather boosted (Partly Cloudy): 393 CP - 437 CP at level 25 (10/10/10 - 15/15/15 IVs)

Trade

If you are unable to find Rolycoly on your own, you can ask an in-game friend to trade you one. However, be prepared for a high Stardust cost as this is a creature you won't have registered on your Pokedex.

Can Rolycoly be shiny in Pokemon GO?

No, Shiny Rolycoly in Pokemon GO is not available as of December 2025. You must wait for a future event where it will get its differently-colored version.
