How the Mets should pivot and salvage offseason after Kyle Tucker chase falls short

The Red Sox and Cubs both pivoted beautifully after early winter failures. The Mets need to do the same. 

The Mets failed to land No. 1 free agent Kyle Tucker in their latest blow in a rough winter. So now they need to get to work. The offseason is still salvageable. 

After winning only 83 games, losing out to the miniscule-market Reds for a playoff spot, then losing two ultra-popular, productive stars in Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz, they are way behind in the offseason game. Word is they project to win 86/87 games, but last year they underperformed the computer by eight games. 

The Mets’ roster doesn’t look like a playoff certainty the way things stand. And it looks eons short of the Dodgers, who landed Tucker with a $240M, four-year deal, and seem to win everything these days.
