How strong is netherite horse armor in Minecraft?

Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem game drop is a special update for fans who love using mounts. The Winter 2025 game drop is set to introduce new mounts like the nautilus, zombie nautilus, and camel husk. However, the update is not just about the new features, as our old beloved mounts, especially horses, are getting some quality-of-life upgrades as well.

Horses will be getting netherite horse armor in the Mounts of Mayhem game drop. This feature has been a long time coming and was more or less expected after Mojang introduced netherite armor for the nautilus. Since netherite horse armor is a new addition, some players may be wondering just how much better it is compared to other horse armors in Minecraft.

Netherite horse armor is the strongest horse armor in Minecraft. It comes with the highest amount of armor (19), armor toughness (3), and is the only horse armor to have a knockback resistance of 10%. Unlike other horse armors, you cannot find netherite horse armor in treasure chests. The only way to get netherite horse armor is by upgrading diamond horse armor using a netherite ingot and a netherite upgrade smithing template.

Let's compare the stats of netherite horse armor with the rest of the horse armors in Minecraft:

• Leather horse armor: 3 armor points
• Copper horse armor: 4 armor points
• Iron horse armor: 5 armor points
• Gold horse armor: 7 armor points
• Diamond horse armor: 11 armor points
• Netherite horse armor: 19 armor points

As you can see, the new netherite horse armor is almost twice as strong as diamond horse armor. If you would like to ride your trusted steed into the “mayhem” of the upcoming game drop, then netherite horse armor is a must-have.

Just like other horse armors, netherite horse armor does not feature durability like the player’s armor set and equipment. This means you can use armor on a horse for as long as you want without having to worry about it breaking.

The only reason you may not want to use netherite horse armor is if you prefer your horse armor with dyed leather armor. Netherite armor undoubtedly has the best stats, but some people may find its appearance dull and boring. Since Mojang is yet to add armor trims for our favorite mounts, dyed leather horse armor is the best choice for players who would like to have a custom appearance for their horses.
