Oklahoma City Thunder star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will have an opportunity to make some major NBA history against the Boston Celtics on Thursday night.
If Gilgeous-Alexander scores 20 points against Boston, he will pass Wilt Chamberlain for the most consecutive 20-point games in NBA history with 127. He’s currently tied with Chamberlain at 126.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s current streak of 20-point games dates back to a game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Nov. 1, 2024. Since then, Gilgeous-Alexander’s has dropped at least 20 points in every single game that he has played – pretty impressive.
While he tries not to focus on it, the historical significance if the feat isn’t lost on Gilgeous-Alexander.
"It's still a lot to even wrap my head around. To be honest with you, I try not to even think about it, especially during the season. So much is going on. So many things have to go right for you to get what you ultimately want,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.
“That gets 100% of my focus, especially basketball-wise. But obviously, being in a conversation with a guy like that, it's special. It's crazy to think that, [considering] where I was 10 years ago, I'd be here today."
The game between Boston and Oklahoma City will be on Prime Video, so a national audience will have an opportunity to watch Gilgeous-Alexander potentially make some big-time league history.
Considering the fact that he has scored 20-plus points in every single game he has played this season, it would be pretty surprising if Gilgeous-Alexander failed to do so for the record against the Celtics.
