Former Eagles Super Bowl-winning DE retires before age 30

It’s becoming more common for players under 30 to retire from the NFL.

Whether loss of passion or long-term injury effects, stepping away from the game at a relatively young age isn’t as shocking as it used to be.

On Thursday, a former Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Champion Defensive end decided it was time to call it quits after the 2025-26 season.

“Veteran DE Bryce Huff announced on IG that he is retiring from the NFL at the age of 27,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

After spending four years at Memphis at the collegiate level, Huff entered the 2020 NFL Draft hoping to eventually hear his name called. Unfortunately, it never happened, but Huff signed a free-agent deal with the New York Jets after going undrafted.

Huff spent four seasons with the Jets, recording 40 solo tackles, 25 assisted tackles, and 17.5 sacks in New York. After the 2023-24 NFL season, Huff joined the Eagles via a three-year deal and enjoyed instant team success. The Eagles secured a 40-22 victory over the Kansas Chiefs in that year’s Super Bowl, allowing Huff to earn his first and only ring in the big leagues.

The Eagles traded the Mobile, Alabama native to the San Francisco 49ers shortly after, where he spent the final season of his NFL career. While Huff won’t be remembered as an all-time great DE, it’s fair to state he carved out a solid NFL career for himself.
