Rod Stewart is on the mend.
While out and about recently with his wife, Penny Lancaster, the rocker — who in August canceled the remaining dates on his North American tour after undergoing a heart procedure — gave The Daily Mail an update. “F–king brilliant!” he reportedly exclaimed on his and Lancaster’s way out of a Sinatra The Musical showing in London.
“I swam 400 meters the other day,” he continued. (That’s equivalent to about 1,312 feet.)
The comment comes after a difficult chapter of live performances for Stewart, who canceled one of his concerts in June one hour before showtime due to a reported acute upper respiratory infection. Two months later, he underwent a coronary stent procedure, which ultimately led to the cancellation of the rest of his tour on doctor’s orders.
“Doctors are pleased with his recovery, and Rod is doing very well and has returned to his normal daily activities,” a statement read at the time. “On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage. Unfortunately, this means he will be unable to continue his current tour dates.”
He’s now planning to return to the stage next year for one last farewell tour, with dates set for April through July 2027. “Ladies and gentlemen, after much deliberation and sadness, I have to announce that next year will be my last tour ever,” Stewart told fans on Instagram in September. “I’m not retiring, but this will be the last rock n’ roll tour. So I want to thank you for everything you’ve given me and hopefully I’ve given you something in return.”
While chatting with the tabloid in London, Lancaster reportedly reaffirmed that her husband has no plans of stepping away from music completely. “He’s never retiring!'” she said on the couple’s way to their car. “He’s going to be touring until 2028 doing the rock n’ roll and then he changes direction to the Great American Songbook.”
