The Washington Commanders already have a crowded RB depth chart.
It's more crowded after using a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Penn State running back Kaytron Allen.
It's a fascinating fit.
Allen was part of a two-headed backfield with the Nittany Lions alongside Nicholas Singleton, who was a fifth-round pick by the Tennessee Titans.
He knows what it takes to play alongside other good backs. He might get a chance to do so again.

How Kaytron Allen fits Commanders' RB depth chart
This will be a hard one to predict and one that we'll have to watch in the preseason.
Last season, Jacory Croskey-Merritt had quality moments as a seventh-round pick.
This offseason, Washington added both Rachaad White and Jerome Ford in free agency.
They also return Jeremy McNichols, who was also a trustworthy player for the Commanders in 2025.
So what does Allen do? He does his best to make the team, for starters.

White and Ford are a bit redundant as guys who catch passes. JCM is the opposite, a run-only guy. McNichols can do a bit of everything.
Allen will have to outplay McNichols and Ford in training camp, it seems. The Commanders picked him, so they believe he can.
