Kayce and Andrea on Marshals

CBS

While no one is particularly eager for Kayce Dutton to move on after losing his wife Monica, fans of CBS' "Marshals" are picking up on major chemistry between Kayce and fellow U.S. Marshal Andrea Cruz. Their portrayers, Luke Grimes and Ash Santos, are well aware of this, and they have their own thoughts about viewers shipping their characters.

TVLine initially clocked Kayce and Andrea's spark during the "Yellowstone" spin-off's first season, specifically during the Marshals' fireside hang at East Camp in Episode 9. Sure, Andrea technically hooked up with Garrett (Riley Green) that night, but not before sharing an emotional moment with Kayce. Compliments were exchanged, stars were gazed at, and chemistry was detected.

During a recent interview with Grimes, we asked if we were imagining a deeper connection between Kayce and Andrea, and he assured us that we have every right to ship those two crazy kids.

"I mean, they're both single people, right?" Grimes told TVLine. "And they're people that we all like. I don't think any of us would be very averse to them getting together, so there's always going to be some sort of should-they or will-they-won't-they with characters like that. I think maybe you're supposed to feel that way, and who knows if that leads to anything or not."

Ash Santos explains why Kayce and Andrea have 'gotten such a big response' from shippers

"They're kindred souls, and I think the way that we're building that is really beautiful," Luke Grimes also recently told ScreenRant about Kayce and Andrea's slow-burn relationship. "You don't see it much these days, where they're forming a really amazing friendship first, and it's beyond just some basic attraction. They are really complementary souls with each other."

Ash Santos agreed with that sentiment, adding that Kayce and Andrea's potential romance is something "you're not seeing very often right now on TV."

"We fell in love with it first in literature, having characters who it takes so much time to recognize that within each other, and the will-they-won't-they, people just love seeing that in storytelling," Santos said. "So, I think, honestly, that's why it's gotten such a big response is because you don't really get that anymore. So, it's really fun from [showrunner Spencer Hudnut] that he's giving that to the fans."
