Sandfall’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 earlier got nominated for 12 awards in the same event, which marks the most-nominated game in the history of The Game Awards event. They successfully claimed the majority of them, which is a remarkable achievement, especially since the title won Game of the Year just a few weeks ago at the Golden Joystick Awards 2025.

Here's what the Sandfall co-founder, François Meurisse, said in the award acceptance speech:

"We wanted to make a small game, but with big ambition. It was challenging everyday. We dedicate this award to all the indie teams around the world, to those who put creativity first, to those who push forward with limited resources, also, to those who never make it to the release,"

Those who are unaware, the title was developed by a group of 30 people working with just one aim: To create a great RPG for players that has been missing for decades.

The team took inspiration from the Belle Époque era to create a storyline that played a crucial role in the history of France. While the award event may be a bit controversial, Expedition 33's win might not be a surprise, but it is well deserved.
