Rob Reiner shared his thoughts on Charlie Kirk's assassination during an interview with Piers Morgan in September this year. Following his death, the filmmaker's old quotes about the late right-wing activist have resurfaced on social media.

Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead in his LA apartment on Sunday, December 14. The perpetrator is unknown, but they reportedly had injuries that depict knife lacerations. Their son, Nick Reiner, has reportedly faced questions from the police, but there have been no arrests (via PEOPLE).

Amidst this, Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet shared a clip of Rob's interview with Piers Morgan regarding Charlie Kirk's death on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote in the caption:

"Rob Reiner responded with grace and compassion to Charlie's assassination. This video makes it all the more painful to hear of he and his wife's tragic end. May God be close to the broken hearted in this terrible story."

In the interview, released on September 26, Morgan asked the director about his thoughts on the assassination, and he answered:

"I felt absolute horror. I unfortunately saw the video of it and it's beyond belief what happened to him. That should never happen to anybody. I don't care what your political beliefs are. That's not acceptable. That's not a solution."

Notably, Charlie Kirk's wife, Erika, said that she would forgive her husband's shooter during his memorial. Praising her comments, Rob added:

"I felt what his wife said at the memorial they had was exactly right. I'm Jewish but I believe in the teachings of Jesus and I believe in doing unto others and I believe in forgiveness. And what she said to me was beautiful. She forgave his assassin and I think that that is admirable."

Notably, Rob Reiner has often spoken against US President Donald Trump, whom Charlie Kirk supported.

Reiner has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump over the years. Once, when asked who he supported, he said that anyone who stood against the current US President. In an interview with Variety in May 2019, he even said:

“Donald Trump is the single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States. He is mentally unfit. Not only does he not understand how government works, he has no interest in trying to find out how it works.”

In another interview with MS Now, published on October 6 this year, Reiner added:

“Make no mistake: We have a year before this country becomes a full-on autocracy and democracy completely leaves us. I believe the way to stop it is to educate people who may not understand what democracy is. They may not know what the impact of losing it is. We have to explain it, us storytellers have to explain to them what they’re going to wind up with if an autocrat has his way."

Rob Reiner also advocated for gay rights and supported many Democratic candidates. In 2008, he co-founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
