My company has had serious cash flow issues for over a year. They currently owe me $15,000 in back pay. I’ve finally accepted an offer elsewhere, but before I jump ship, I’d like to get the money I’m owed. How can I do this? Once I leave, I’ll just be ghosted.
They legally owe you the money, so put what they owe you in writing and ask for a response. Make copies of the exchange for legal purposes if it comes to that — and that may be the only way to get your money, by filing a claim through the Department of Labor or a private attorney. I would do both simultaneously, because going through the government agency will take a long time, and who knows if the company will still be solvent by then. If you have an attorney friend who can draft a letter on legal letterhead, that may shake loose your funds more quickly.
