Argentina is the defending World Cup champion and features some of the best players in the world.
Three of them share a last name: Martinez. Emi plays in goal, while Lisandro is a central defender and Lautaro is a striker.
Emi (which is short for Emiliano, and he also goes by Dibu) and Lisandro are every-match starters, while Lautaro sometimes comes off the bench.
Their presence on the roster also raises an obvious question.

No, these three Argentina stars are not related.
There's no record anywhere of them having familial connections beyond being members of the Argentina national team.
Martinez is a common last name in the Spanish-speaking world, so it's not crazy to think that three guys with that surname have made it to the World Cup all representing Argentina.
It does make for a little extra work for announcers, who have to do more than just "Martinez" to represent who they might be talking about in a given moment.
The reality is that Argentina must just be grateful for how impactful these three men named Martinez are. They are all big pieces for the defending world champions as they try to repeat.
