Emily Blunt Details Reuniting with Co-Stars on ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Set
Adrian Grenier might need to indulge in like $8 worth of Jarlsberg.
Especially because after starring as Nate Cooper, the chef boyfriend of Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs in 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada, he was slightly disappointed not to have been asked back for the upcoming sequel.
“We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we’re in it,” Adrian shared with Page Six in an interview published March 13. “Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand there’s some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it.”
And while he would have “of course” said yes to reprising his role in The Devil Wears Prada 2, he does have some ideas for the future.
“It leaves room for a beautiful spinoff,” the 49-year-old suggested, “in which Nate has his own film.”
As for the very divided reaction to his character, it’s one of most-talked about elements from the first film with many fans quipping that Nate was the true villain of the film—as opposed to Meryl Streep’s exacting Miranda Priestly. And while Adrian didn’t understand that reaction at the time, he has come to see that perhaps there is some truth to it.

"All those memes that came out were shocking to me,” he told Entertainment Weekly in 2021. “It hadn't occurred to me until I started to really think about it, and perhaps it was because I was as immature as Nate was at the time, and in many ways he's very selfish and self-involved, it was all about him, he wasn't extending himself to support Andy in her career.”
“But after time to reflect and much deliberation,” the Entourage alum added, “I’ve come to realize the truth in that perspective."
As for Anne, she takes issue with the idea of Nate being the villain of the story.

“I think that they were both very young and figuring things out,” she shared on Watch What Happens Live in 2022. “He did behave like a brat, but I also behaved like a brat in my 20s and I hopefully grew out of it.”
“I think that that's what we all do,” the 43-year-old continued, “and I wouldn't want to be defined by my worst moment in my 20s, certainly. So, I don't hold Nate as a villain, actually."
