Houston takes advantage of Deion Sanders' Buffaloes' struggles to end rare skid

There were already questions surrounding the Colorado Buffaloes' performances heading into their Week 3 matchup against the Houston Cougars. After Friday's result, opponents no longer have to wonder. Deion Sanders' Buffaloes are struggling.

In the 36-20 win over Colorado, Houston ended a rare drought. CBS Sports reporter Shehan Jeyarajah wrote:

"Houston had not recorded 400 yards in a game since a 43-41 loss to Rice on Sept. 9, 2023. They have not recorded 400 yards against a conference opponent since they were still members of the American Conference. The Cougars easily eclipsed that mark against the Buffaloes, rolling up 430 yards -- including clearing 200 on the ground."

The Cougars now lead the Big 12 with three wins.

The Buffaloes never mounted a serious threat to Houston. After the game, Sanders' reaction summed up just how bad his team is right now.

"It wasn’t good. I’m at a loss for words," Sanders said. "No one could have told me that it was gonna turn out like this. ... I take full responsibility of the foolishness that went on out there that we tried to name football. We tried to call it football. It wasn’t that."

According to Jeyarajah, it was "one of the easiest games" in quarterback Conner Weigman's career. He rushed for two touchdowns for the first time as a college starter.

Colorado's third-string QB Ryan Staub struggled and failed to seize his chance to make an impression on Sanders. He completed 19 of 35 passes for 204 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
