Jauan Jennings has filled in admirably for the San Francisco 49ers after injuries to starters.
The seventh-round pick in 2020 has found the end zone nine times this season, with five of those happening in the last four weeks.
Former All-Pro receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been out all year with a knee injury and reports suggest he is on shaky terms with the front office and is expected to move on, which gives Jennings a chance to get a deal with the 49ers. Jennings is an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
Many predict a high-scoring affair on Sunday night when the 49ers (11-4) host the Chicago Bears (11-4).
Jauan Jennings hasn’t watched the Bears too much
Jennings made a bit of news out of a press gaggle on Friday, when he suggested that he hasn’t been watching the Bears.
“I haven’t watched them too much. Maybe a game or so,” Jennings told reporters. “We always play games on the same day and so it’s kind of hard to see them.”
We will just have to hope that Jennings is paying attention during film sessions. Also, to be fair, no one knows who is going to be lined up in the secondary on Sunday. Cornerback Nahshon Wright (hamstring/illness), linebacker T.J. Edwards (glute) and nickelback C.J. Gardner-Johnson (knee) are all listed as questionable for the Bears ahead of Sunday’s game.
Jauan Jennings expected to test free agency market
Matt Barrows with The Athletic recently wrote responses to a reader mailbag and was asked if Jennings is expected to come back.
“My guess is Jennings tests his worth on the open market in March. Maybe a team with a big salary-cap cushion and a need at wideout — the Titans? Chargers? — steps up,” Barrows wrote.” But if he doesn’t get the big deal he’s looking for, the 49ers would happily ink him to a more modest one.”
