Honkai Star Rail leaks suggest Elation path may repeat Remembrance’s biggest issue

Remembrance path gameplay has been a controversial topic within the Honkai Star Rail community. Unfortunately, new HSR leaks hint at Elation path characters taking a similar route.

Before the release of Amphoreus, reliable leaker Sakura Haven revealed which paths were set to get the most characters in the 3.x versions, with the top three being Destruction, Erudition, and Nihility.

In a recent leak, Sakura Haven revealed that Destruction was largely used as a placeholder path for several Remembrance characters. This makes sense, as characters like Aglaea, Castorice, and Evernight function very similarly to traditional Destruction units, despite being labeled differently.

Because of this, a lot of players were disappointed, feeling that Remembrance characters were not different enough from existing paths beyond a single gimmick. With the latest HSR leaks, Elation now appears to be heading in a similar direction.

New Elation path in Honkai Star Rail might end up like the Remembrance path, as per leaks

According to leaker Sakura Haven, Honkai Star Rail developers are using a character's base path as a placeholder and later turning them into Elation characters. As an example, they shared that the newly revealed characters, Yao Guang and Sparxie, have Harmony and Destruction base kits, but are actually Elation characters.

Sakura Haven also said there is a version 4.1 Elation character with a Nihility base kit currently in development. Apart from these three characters, the leaker also said we might be getting one character from each of the following paths by version 4.3:

  • Preservation
  • Elation
  • Hunt
  • Erudition

Lastly, Sakura Haven shared an overall list of characters and their paths players can expect in Honkai Star Railversion 4.x:

  • 1 Harmony character
  • 2 Hunt characters
  • 1 Abundance character
  • 1–3 Erudition characters
  • 1–3 Destruction characters

But there is a catch. As the leaker explained earlier, any of these character kits can be turned into an Elation character.

Based on this leak, it is clear that Elation may end up just like Remembrance, which essentially consists of characters following one of the original seven paths but with a gimmick, such as memosprites. While leakers are yet to reveal how the Elation path works, the rumor circulating is that the path will add gameplay features from the Try-Not-to-Laugh Challenge event from version 3.6.

Why Elation being just like Remembrance is a problem

First and foremost, the biggest problem with introducing a new character path in Honkai Star Rail is the severe lack of usable free-to-play Light Cones. Throughout the release of Amphoreus' Remembrance characters, players have struggled to obtain free-to-play Light Cones for their characters.

With all Remembrance characters sitting at the top of the meta throughout the 3.x cycle, the lack of usable Light Cones has prevented many players from enjoying their favorite characters to their fullest potential. Even if you managed to obtain a character's signature Light Cone, it is so tailor-made to their kit that you would not be able to use it on another Remembrance character.

Apart from the Light Cone issue, the Elation path will introduce characters with Elation-focused buffs. While an Elation buffer would be nice to have if you own an Elation DPS, it would lock them into only a few team compositions, similar to how Evernight excels in mono-Remembrance teams in Honkai Star Rail.

With how Honkai Star Rail handled team building throughout Amphoreus, they seem interested in releasing restrictive characters with limited team options, and Elation may simply be another experiment similar to Remembrance.
