The San Francisco 49ers had a chance to go from last to first in the span of a year against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday. Instead, they blew it dully, and fans knew whom to blame.

After a 13-3 loss, head coach Kyle Shanahan drew criticism for his lack of creativity and aggression in his playcalling and roster management:

@AndyKHLiu People never listen to me about Kyle Shanahan. Choekahan melts faster than a snowman in the heat in big games. Horrible historic choker artist fraud!!

What a terrible game plan by Kyle Shanahan but I expect nothing less this guy will never win us a superbowl I’ve been saying this shit for years

Again, this is why I said Kyle Shanahan will never win a Super Bowl. Personnel usage, time management, game management, decision at crucial moments. He just simply stinks because of his ego and pride

Kyle Shanahan did not call his best game tonight. A banged up offense didn’t help, but the play calling was too vanilla and did Brock Purdy no favors. The defense gave them enough to win tonight, Kyle fell short.

And this is the problem with Kyle Shanahan. Seattle is begging to lose this game and when the lights are brightest, he gets into his own head & is his own worst enemy. If only Kyle Shanahan could overcome Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers cup-eth would overfloweth.

The first quarter began with disaster, as the Seahawks managed to get within the 49ers' 5 but foolishly decided to go for it on fourth down rather than safely kick a field goal. Still, they eventually got their points, as Zach Charbonnet punished a punt with a rushing touchdown - the only time either side would reach the end zone all night long.

After that came a truly disastrous sequence. Jason Myers failed to punish a punt when he shanked his field goal wide right, then the 49ers squandered their well-placed field position by failing to convert on fourth down. Eventually, both sides scored field goals on back-to-back drives to end the first half.

The second half would prove more disastrous, as both sides spent the entire third quarter punting. Sam Darnold even nearly fumbled away a possession before Charbonnet saved it, and that drive ended in a field goal. That would be the last time either scored, as both sides exchanged turnovers for the rest of the game.

Neither Brock Purdy nor Darnold played well, each quarterback falling short of 200 passing yards and combining for five sacks and an interception. Kenneth Walker III was the only offensive weapon on either side to hit at least 100 scrimmage yards, with 97 rushing and 36 receiving.
