The coach's controversial move to join the LSU Tigers at the end of Ole Miss' regular season, just before his team was about to begin preparations for the CFP, was the biggest story of the 2025 coaching cycle in college football. And despite Kiffin no longer coaching the Rebels, he is able to continue financially benefiting from his old team's playoff victories.

Language in Kiffin's LSU contract allows him to still receive the bonuses for playoff success he would have received from Ole Miss had he stayed at the school.

The Advocate reported that Kiffin agreed to a seven-year deal, $91 million deal in Baton Rouge, which also has opportunities to earn more via incentives. Additionally, language in Kiffin's contract reportedly requires a raise from LSU to make him the highest-paid coach in the country if he wins a national championship.

In the deal, LSU committed to paying any bonuses Kiffin would have received during Ole Miss' playoff run, per ESPN.

Kiffin is reportedly set to make $13 million annually, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. Georgia's Kirby Smart is the only coach who makes more annually, based on reported figures.

How much did Lane Kiffin make at Ole Miss?

Kiffin's Ole Miss salary in 2025 was exactly $9 million, per USA Today, which made him the 11th highest-paid head coach in college football. Kiffin signed a six-year extension worth $54 million in 2023 with Ole Miss.

LSU included language in Kiffin's new contract that allows him to financially benefit from when his former team, Ole Miss, wins playoff games. When Ole Miss beat Tulane in the first round of the CFP, Kiffin received $250,000, per Front Office Sports.
