U2 has been selected as the 2027 MusiCares Persons of the Year. The 36th annual benefit gala will be held at a new location, Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Friday, Feb. 5, 2027, two nights before the 2027 Grammys at Crypto.com Arena.

U2 — Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. — will be the fourth band to receive the honor, following Fleetwood Mac (2018), Aerosmith (2020) and Grateful Dead (2025).

MusiCares previously honored U2’s front-man, Bono, as an individual at the 2003 MusiCares Person of the Year gala. Bono will become the first person to be honored both individually and in a group.

U2 has won 22 Grammy awards, more than any other group or duo. They are the only act in Grammy history to win two awards in each of the three highest-profile categories – album of the year, record of the year and song of the year.

The MusiCares Persons of the Year event has traditionally featured a cocktail reception, dinner and a tribute concert with performances by renowned artists celebrating the honoree’s music and humanitarian work. Since its founding in 1991, the gala has raised funds to support MusiCares’ programs, including health and wellness services, addiction recovery, mental health, preventive care, disaster relief and financial assistance for music professionals.

Here are all of the person of the year honorees to date, shown in reverse chronological order. All years refer to the year the person of the year event was held and the year of the corresponding Grammy telecast.
