The Miami Heat’s offseason is already off to a great start, as the three-time NBA champions secured the No. 1 spot in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes (the Boston Celtics were a close second, but didn’t submit an enticing enough deal to turn the tide in their favor).
Miami is also pursuing future Hall of Famers LeBron James and Russell Westbrook (they won’t sign Westbrook if James joins the fold, though), signaling their intention to make additional roster moves to field the best possible 2026-27 roster.
According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, former Golden State Warriors star and four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson is another player receiving interest from Miami following their blockbuster trade for Antetokounmpo.
NBA reporter Evan Sidery believes there’s a relatively clear path for the Heat to reunite Andrew Wiggins with the Hall of Fame forward if they choose.
“A potential trade framework between the Heat and Mavericks involving Klay Thompson: Miami: Klay,: Sidery wrote on X/Twitter Monday. “Dallas: Nikola Jovic + 2027 second-round pick.”
Clearly, Thompson’s trade value isn’t overly high, as his worsening off-the-dribble shot-making perimeter has contributed to a noticeable two-way decline. Still, the Oregon State remains a prolific three-point shooting threat who has yet to show below 38.3% from deep in the big leagues.
Surrounding Antetokounmpo with elite long-range shooters who can deliver when defenses collapse on him in downhill driving situations would be a smart move for the Heat, and Thompson checks off that box.
Needless to say, it isn’t surprising that Miami is exploring the idea of trading for the 36-year-old former Warriors splash brother.
