As the first few days of NBA Summer League begin, there's hope and expectation that LeBron James will make his decision soon.
James is expected to find a new home where he has a chance to win, though it remains uncertain how much impact his prior stops or history will have. If James is interested in playing for the city that raised him, playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers would make sense.
If James wants to return to the Miami Heat and try to win with Giannis Antetokounmpo, it could work out.
However, according to the latest report from ESPN, there's a sense that James and the Cavaliers will eventually come to an agreement on a deal, with certain teams being skeptical about being able to land James. For the Heat, that's far from ideal news.
“What I suspect is going to be important to him is that he is going to get through the regular season without having to go to extraordinary measures. Without having to play 38 minutes per game, take 25 shots. I think Philly can make a compelling case. But so can Cleveland. Can anybody make a more compelling case on the roster than Cleveland, and more compelling on the home front? The teams out there that I’ve talked to are skeptical. They don’t know for sure, but they’re skeptical,” Brian Windhorst said, H/T SportsNaut.
I think there's an argument to be made that James playing in Cleveland would make more sense than Miami at this stage of his career. Even if we're not going strictly off basketball terms, I'd say Cleveland and Miami are somewhat similar in terms of where I rank them as contenders in the Eastern Conference.
However, Miami has some more star power with Giannis Antetokounmpo now, so I could see him being interested in that. Ultimately, until he makes a decision, we'll have to see.
