Chael Sonnen recently spoke on Ariel Helwani’s show and discussed the issues with Jon Jones wanting to fight at the UFC White House event.

Jones has several times asked Dana White to be on the card, but the UFC boss is still unhappy with how ‘Bones’ declined to fight current heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall despite signing a deal.

Jones fighting Alex Pereira on the White House card has been brought up by both stars in recent months. However, news broke out yesterday that the Brazilian was not going to fight in the event.

Helwani asked Sonnen if this was the end of Jones’ fighting career. Sonnen brought up that Jones was also dealing with personal issues like Ilia Topuria, but didn’t elaborate on that.

The UFC legend, however, did explain how Jones’ thought process in wanting this fight was all wrong:

“I forgive Jon Jones. And Jon Jones is going through a lot right now like Ilia…I wish him well. He’s missing the point. The company coming out and saying that they can’t trust him and him making a demand that he will only fight on one [White House card]. That is what they are saying ‘we can’t trust you.’”

Sonnen continued:

"Nobody gets to pick what card they come back and they only come back for this. Jon’s doing his best. He’s just not very bright.”

Sonnen added that while Jones was willing to fight a lot of names, he wasn’t in a place to make any demands.

Joe Rogan believes White House card without Jon Jones is a “travesty”

While the White House card hasn’t been revealed yet, Joe Rogan recently shared his thoughts on Jon Jones not fighting at the event.

The UFC commentator and podcaster was speaking to Brendan Allen and wanted Jones to be on the card:

“Well, if they don’t do Jon Jones at the White House it’s going to be a travesty. Dana's like, ‘You can’t count on him,’ you can f****** count on him, come on, stop.”

Rogan also laughed off US President Donald Trump's claims that there would be eight or nine title fights on the same card.
