Brandon Aiyuk will play no part in the 2025 NFL season. Ian Rapoport wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver has been placed on the reserve/left squad list, which officially ends his season.
Following the news, NFL fans gave their two cents about the veteran wideout.
A fan said, "He’s definitely more trouble than he’s worth."•

Another added, "Does management have a responsibility to repair relationships or cut ties?" One wrote, "Aiyuk, biggest grift of the decade."Some fans were more sympathetic to Aiyuk's plight.
One said, "Brutal. Tough break for Aiyuk, and feels like the end of the road in San Francisco." Another wrote, "No way. Hope he’s ok." One chipped in, saying, "Time for a fresh start."The San Francisco 49ers drafted Brandon Aiyuk in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. Aiyuk promptly became a key component of Kyle Shanahan's offense.
Aiyuk got more involved in subsequent years and had a career-best campaign in 2023. That season saw the Arizona State product end the season with a stat line of 75 catches, 1,342 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns. He earned a Second-team All-Pro nod for his efforts.
Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers are tipped to part ways
Brandon Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension ahead of the 2024 season and was tipped to be Brock Purdy's primary target. However, injuries limited him to just seven appearances and a stat line of 25 catches, 374 receiving yards, and zero touchdowns in seven games.
Such has been the case in the 2025 campaign, and he's set to miss the entirety of the season. There's now a real chance that the 49ers move on from their once-promising receiver in the offseason.
Aiyuk retains interest from the Washington Commanders, and he's still a Pro Bowl-caliber talent if he's able to take the gridiron. However, his injuries have forced the San Francisco 49ers to look for offensive production elsewhere. Star running back Christian McCaffrey has helped in that respect, and wide receivers Kendrick Bourne, Jauan Jennings, and Ricky Pearsall are getting the job done. Plus, tight George Kittle remains a solid contributor.
Ian Rapoport says that Brandon Aiyuk's time in San Francisco might be up. There's a high chance that's the case, and more will be clearer in the not-too-distant future.
