Doja Cat has described Phonte’s verse on Little Brother’s 2002 track Whatever You Say as one of her favorite moments in hip-hop.

During a recent Instagram Live session, the artist was seen listening to the track while doing her makeup and mouthing along to the lyrics. After the verse ended, she paused to share her thoughts with her audience. As reported by Complex on November 5, 2025, Doja Cat said with a grin,

"Bruh, that’s one of my favorite verses in the entire f*****g history of rap ever"

The rapper then added

"That shit was so smooth. He didn’t rhyme one f*****g word. I don’t care what anybody says."

Doja Cat later clarified that Phonte rhymed one or two lines but said the verse stood out precisely because it wasn’t structured around rhyme. “It works,” she said. “You don’t have to rhyme.”

Doja’s comments come as she continues to promote her new album Vie, which she has been performing live throughout 2025. The exchange gave fans a glimpse into her wide-ranging musical influences, spanning from mainstream pop and R&B to early 2000s alternative hip-hop.

Doja Cat's come soon after the Curtain Call farewell tour

Doja Cat’s praise for Phonte’s work arrived shortly after Little Brother concluded their Curtain Call farewell tour. The group which included Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh, had earlier announced that this would be their final tour together.

As reported by Complex, Big Pooh told AllHipHop that the duo wanted to close their musical chapter “the proper way", saying,

"Me and Phonte, we super good. We had a chance to reconcile, come back and, I believe, put Little Brother to bed the proper way."

The Curtain Call tour reportedly gave Little Brother a chance to celebrate thier legacy after years apart. Phonte emphasized the sense of completion that came with the reunion, saying,

“Our work is complete. Our mission as Little Brother is complete.”

For Phonte, the reunion went beyond music. He explained that rebuilding his personal relationship with Big Pooh was the most meaningful outcome. The rapper reportedly said,

"Pooh and I were really able to not just rebuild but also cement our brotherhood. Our work as Little Brother is done. Our lives as Phonte and Thomas will go on forever."
