Bobby Wagner is considered one of the best off-ball linebackers in NFL history - a cerebral route-stopper with amazing awareness of where the carrier is heading. However, one would be forgiven for not thinking that on Monday.

On the road against the Kansas City Chiefs, the former Super Bowl champion and multiple-time Pro Bowler struggled massively, recording only ten tackles (seven solo) and failing to prevent the Washington Commanders from absorbing a 28-7 loss.

In the aftermath, fans urged him to retire:

Bobby Wagner should have retired. @Commanders please make him retire. He can’t cover a crippled grandmother. Thanks.

Bobby Wagner slow asf now

Bobby Wagner so damn slow lol

"He can’t cover for nun wtf", one shuddered. "He getting beat a lot smh," another lamented. "Why is bobby wagner ever playing 1-on-1 zone defense on Rashee Rice?" another despaired.

The Commanders actually enjoyed a strong first half on defense, intercepting Patrick Mahomes twice. However, the offense, already reeling from being intercepted on the opening drive, failed to capitalize both times, committing a turnover on downs on each of them.

That drought was broken by Kareem Hunt, who rushed for a touchdown. Terry McLaurin tied the game afterwards with a catch before halftime.

From there, however, it was all Chiefs, as they scored three touchdowns - all passes from Mahomes - and forced punts on all their opponents' drives save the last, which ended in an interception.
