DC has some bad news for Superman fans, though

DC and HBO first announced My Adventures with Green Lantern back in 2025, and updates since then have been sparse. It was briefly shown off during this year's Annecy International Animation Festival, but nothing at the convention was released publicly. Now, DC Studios co-lead Peter Safran has finally given a small but much-needed update on the project.
Talking to Collider, Safran confirmed that the first season of My Adventures with Green Lantern will consist of 10 half-hour episodes. That matches the length of seasons of My Adventures with Superman, which the new show is a spun-off from. Safran added that while the themes of the Green Lantern show will be different than the Superman show due to the new roster of characters, it will be "tonally similar." That likely means it will mix traditional comic book action with some anime sensibilities.
My Adventures with Green Lantern will follow Jessica Cruz, who debuted in My Adventures with Superman season 3, as she balances the responsibilities of becoming a new hero with her life as a student at Hal Jordan Memorial High. Whereas the Superman series took a lot of cues from shōnen anime, Cruz's show seems to be more inspired by magical girl anime like Sailor Moon based on a clip shown during Annecy. The series will include a number of famous Green Lantern characters beyond Jessica Cruz, such as Kyle Rayner and Kilowog. Cruz will be voiced by Auliʻi Cravalho (Moana). No release date has been announced for My Adventures with Green Lantern but Safran revealed that the team is "reviewing animatics and animation on [the show] right now."
Will My Adventures with Superman get a fourth season?
Image: Carli Squitieri/DC ComicsWhile My Adventures with Green Lantern sounds like another exciting animated project for DC and HBO, it has a downside. The same team that makes My Adventures with Superman is leading work on the spin-off, meaning it may be a while before we see the likes of Clark, Louis, Jimmy, and Kara again. The show's third season was released earlier this year, but there has been no announcement of a fourth season yet. Safran told Collider that the future of the series is "up in the air right now."
In a conversation with the Ringer, series co-showrunner Jake Wyatt revealed that Safran and James Gunn encouraged the team to work plans for a potential fourth season into the later episodes of season 3. While not a confirmation that the show is dead, that tidbit combined with the lack of a series renewal does not bode well. With the team hard at work on My Adventures with Green Lantern, a fourth season will be a ways off. If it does eventually get greenlit, though, the team knows where it wants to take the show.
