Hawks reuniting with former All-Star would form championship duo with Kristaps Porzingis

The Hawks have arguably had one of the best offseasons out of all the teams in the NBA this summer.

They've acquired some key players through trades and in free agency, giving them a great shot at going far in the East next season.

The Hawks want to win a championship, and although they were already able to add Kristaps Porzingis, they might be on their way to adding another champion who was teammates with him.

What player are the Hawks interested in?

ESPN's Marc Spears reported that the Hawks are one of a couple of new teams getting involved in the Al Horford sweepstakes.

Horford is currently in his second stint with the Celtics, but has a special place in his heart for Atlanta.

After it seemed like Horford was bound to become a Warrior, there has been less movement around Horford signing a deal with Golden State.

The Hawks seem like the better team for Horford to sign with.

Horford will be 39 years old next season, so going to Atlanta would make sense for several reasons.

The first reason is that he is already familiar with the team and the city.

Spears mentioned that Horford lives between Atlanta and Boston during the offseason, so it's not like he will be moving to an unfamiliar city if he plays there.

The second reason, which is similar to the first, is that Horford was drafted by the Hawks and played nine seasons with them.

It would be special for Horford to finish his career where he started it.

The last reason why it makes sense is that he will have a chance to be on a team that's expected to be a high seed in the East this upcoming season.

They already traded for Horford's teammate, Kristaps Porzingis, and both have recent championship experience playing together.

There aren't many better options than Horford on the market for the price you can get him for.

The Hawks have more flexibility financially than some other contenders, so all signs point towards this making sense if it does end up happening.
